I have a 90 TD5 and drive a 2012 2.4 110 for work. The TD5 is slower and colder but i would have it over the 2.4 any day of the week. The leg room in the 2.4 is terrible and the transit engine doesn't sound like a defender to me. I don't think parts are ever going to be an issue for either vehicle so no real differentiators there.
Drives well, the TD5 engine starts and runs very well. In my ownership it has had a new alternator, new battery, new servo, new seatbelt, LOF clutch spring, new front bumper, new horn, new centre seat, Spare wheel carrier, 3 wiper blades for the last MOT and a high level brake light. Posted April 4, 2008. I echo the above. I loved my Td5 but the Puma is a better vehicle. The engine and transmission are smoother, 6th gear makes 70-75 mph a dream, the anti-stall has to be experienced and is the way forward and there is increased torque throughout. Jury's out on fuel consumption.

My Defender 90 needed a new chassis so here's how I took the body off, I was on my own so had to devise a way of lifting the chassis off the body.. I got all set up during the week, took me about four hours in total to prepare for the lift off, I did get some help on the day but they came more out of interest rather than me needing any help.
